Roll-off containers for Olyphant homes and jobsites

Six miles up the valley, Olyphant still looks like the town the coal companies built, with a compact commercial spine on Lackawanna Avenue and church domes visible from three directions. Sections here have names people actually use, and telling us you are in Smoketown or the Flats or up Fern Hill tells us most of what we need to know about access. The work is heavily residential: full interior gut jobs in houses that have not been touched since the 1950s, attic and cellar clearances, porch rebuilds, roof tear-offs and the occasional parish hall or club clean-out where a lot of material comes out at once.

What we know about working in Olyphant

Olyphant's housing is genuinely old, much of it late nineteenth and early twentieth century, and renovations here regularly turn up knob-and-tube wiring, layered linoleum over pine, horsehair plaster and cast-iron radiators. The Flats run low and level near the Lackawanna and can take on water in a serious storm, so we watch weather before committing a container to that ground. Fern Hill and Grassy Island Heights climb hard, and those streets need a truck with a clean, dry run at the driveway. The borough lost its big disc manufacturing employer several years back, and much of the current work is homeowners and small landlords upgrading stock rather than large commercial projects. Alleys behind Willow and the parallel streets are usable but narrow.

Getting a truck to you

We run out of North Scranton on Business Route 6, the old Scranton and Carbondale road, straight through Dickson City and into Olyphant, which keeps us off the interstate entirely. For the far end of the borough we take the Casey Highway and come down at East Lackawanna Avenue. Inside town, the constraints are hillside grades on Fern Hill, narrow rear alleys, and parked cars on both sides of the older residential blocks.

Routes we run: Business Route 6 (Lackawanna Avenue), US 6 (Casey Highway) at East Lackawanna Avenue, PA 247, I-81 (exit 191) via Business 6.

Permits, streets and placement in Olyphant

On a private driveway in Olyphant you generally do not need a municipal permit. Placement in the public street or right-of-way is a different matter and normally requires approval — from the borough or township where the road is locally maintained, or from PennDOT where it is a state route. Every municipality in Lackawanna County runs its own form and its own lead time, and older streets here often have no off-street parking at all, so plan the permit before you plan the delivery. It is a ten-minute call that saves a week.

Our permit and placement guide walks through the whole process, and PA DEP publishes the Covered Device Recycling Act rules and the other statewide disposal restrictions that apply to every load we haul out of Olyphant. County recycling and household hazardous waste dates are published by Lackawanna County.

Dumpster Rental in Olyphant — FAQs

Is it safe to rent a container for a property down in the Flats?

In normal weather, absolutely, and we deliver there constantly. What we do is keep an eye on the forecast during your rental period. If heavy rain is coming and the ground is already saturated, we would rather pull the container early or set it on higher pavement than leave a loaded box sitting on soft, low ground near the river.

How long can I keep the container up on Fern Hill?

Standard rental periods run about a week, and we extend them regularly when a project runs long. The hill is only a factor for delivery and pickup, not for the days in between. Just keep the driveway approach clear of vehicles for the pickup, because a truck reversing down a steep Fern Hill driveway needs the full run to load safely.

Can you handle a church, club or hall clear-out?

Yes, and Olyphant has plenty of them. Those jobs produce a distinctive mix: pews, folding tables, kitchen equipment, decades of stored paper, carpet and old panelling. Volume is high, weight is moderate, so a 30 yard container is often right. We can arrange a weekend delivery so the building is not blocked during services or events.

How quickly can you deliver a dumpster to Olyphant?

Olyphant is about 6 miles northeast of Scranton, so it is a routine run for us. Same-day delivery is usually possible if you call before about 11am, and next morning otherwise. Storm weeks and the spring remodeling peak can stretch that, and we will tell you honestly when you call.

Do you charge extra to deliver to Olyphant?

No. Olyphant sits inside our standard service area and the flat rate is the same as it is in Scranton. Delivery, pickup, your rental window and disposal up to the agreed tonnage are all included in the number we quote you.

What size dumpster do most Olyphant customers take?

A 20 yard is the most common by a wide margin — it suits kitchen guts, multi-room renovations and three-bedroom house cleanouts. But if you are stripping plaster and lath out of a pre-war house, or moving coal-era brick, stone or concrete, size DOWN to a 10 yard heavy container and take two hauls — that material hits the weight limit long before it fills the box.
